Before the Colt revolver shaped the frontier, there was the Allen & Thurber Pepperbox—a curious yet powerful handheld defence weapon with multiple rotating barrels. Kolser’s 1837 Pepperbox 6-Shot replica, cast in brass and silver-toned metal, brings this little-known but fiercely fascinating firearm to life.

Compact at 23 cm, this six-barrel pistol was designed for up-close encounters. During its limited production between 1837 and 1847, only a handful of these unique pepperboxes were made, making the original pieces incredibly rare—and highly sought after by collectors today.

Kolser’s version is built for durability using metal and resin construction, with elegant engraved detailing that reflects the finely crafted style of 1830s pistols. The simulated wood-style stock adds to its period-authentic charm, while the multi-barrel design—immediately eye-catching—is both historical and artistic.

Nicknamed the “Pepperbox” for its resemblance to the kitchen grinder, this pistol marked an evolution in concealed carry weapons. Popular with travellers and merchants wary of highwaymen, it required no cocking of a hammer—just a pull of the trigger and a new barrel would align and fire.

Kolser preserves this mystique with an intricate finish and craftsmanship that honours the ingenuity of Allen & Thurber. Whether it’s mounted in a study, used in period reenactments, or added to a vintage firearm showcase, this pistol invites conversation and admiration.

It’s more than a replica—it’s a snapshot of early revolver evolution, when innovation still came in six-barrel form.
